Chase Sapphire Reserve offers Travel credit of $300 on eligible travel purchases during every anniversary year. When you cancel the card after you received the $300 credit, nothing happens to that credit.

If you have Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Unlimited and/or Ink Business Cards, its not worth to cancel the card. You might lose more redemption value by canceling the Chase Reserve, as Reserve gives 50% more value.

If canceling…

  • within 30 days of when the annual fee is charged, you get a full refund
  • outside of the 30 day window, you will not get a refund, might vary anytime.

If downgrading…

  • within 60 days of when the annual fee is charged, you get a full refund
  • outside of the 60 day window, you can still get a refund, it will just be pro-rated, it might vary anytime.

There is no guarantee that you will get two travel credits when you cancel the card within 30-60 days of AF charged.

If Chase Reserve is not the right card, then the premium card is not the right one. The premium card benefits and perks are the game changer in today’s credit card offerings. The benefits that are offered makes the Annual Fee value less than they charge. So, it really depends on the lifestyle and way it is redeemed.
